Gender determination racket busted, 4 held

MAHABUBABAD: District medical and health officer (DM&HO) Dr B Kalavathi Bhai and Dr B Shravanthi of primary health centre (PHC) on Monday inspected and seized an illegal sex determination centre.
The centre was being run by two RMPs in Pilliguntla Tanda of the district. Following a complaint by DM&HO about the illegal sex determination centre being operated by unqualified persons, Kuravi SI B Gopi and his team raided the residence of B Shiva in Pilliguntula Tanda and arrested him along with three others - P Veerabhadram (manager) and S Ashok, P Mahender (technicians).
They were secretly operating a sex determination center in Shiva's residence and were collecting huge amounts from patients.
Speaking to reporters, Mahabubabad rural CI P Sarvaiah said that two RMPs Vikram and Yogendra have absconded, while the remaining four persons were taken into custody. An investigation is on, he added.
